For this project, we were asked to take on the role of a literacy coach and go into another classroom in order to support a need that a colleague had. Wepner et al. (2014) write that “One of the challenges in effective coaching is supporting a culture where teachers and the coach collaborate in addressing the relationship of teaching to learning” (p. 48). Through this process, I was able to learn valuable leadership skills that I can take with me as I move into my own teaching. I grappled with being an effective facilitator. I learned the importance of keeping within a framework. I learned the importance of goal setting and how important it is to first identify a goal to work towards. I tend to naturally take the position of a helper and when asked to do something I tend to do it without question. However, in the case of this project, this was a hindrance. Through this project,  I also learned the importance of engaging in professional learning for myself as well as the teacher I was working with. Continuing to learn and adjust our teaching is so important to ensure that our teaching practices are beneficial for our students.
