As a literacy coach and reading specialist, I will be working with adolescent learners as well as adult learners. It is important to recognize how each learner learns. Through my analysis, I am able to recognize that there is no one way to teach adult learners just as there is no one way to teach adolescent learners. Each learner brings forth their own characteristics and it is important to recognize that in order to support the learning process. As I continue on in my professional role as an educator, reading specialist, or literacy coach it will be important to understand the theories that align with my own teaching practices. My Andragogy Paper compares and contrasts the ideas of pedagogy and andragogy, summarizes the work of Malcolm Knowles and his beliefs of andragogy as well as the five assumptions that Knowles had about adult learning.
